The Loch Raven Reservoir UFO

On October 26th, 1958 around midnight, friends Alvin Cohen and Phillip Small were driving by the Loch Raven Reservoir in Towson, Maryland. It was a fairly uneventful day before that but what the young men saw would stay with them for the rest of their lives.

As the young men approached the bridge, out of nowhere a huge, iridescent egg-shaped object appeared before them over the bridge. Suspended in mid-air before them, the young men began to slow their car. However, as soon as they were closer to the egg their entire car died. No ignition, no engine activity, no headlights...it was as if the car had died in fright. Or, more likely, the entire electrical system inexplicably gave out.

Alvin and Philip sat stunned in their dead car, terrified, a huge flash of bright white light temporarily filled their field of vision. Shortly after the short blast of slight, the Alvin and Phillip’s faces began to flush and grow hot as a hugely loud noise pierced their ears. Since their vision was obscured, they initially believed they had just witnessed some kind of serious explosion.

Their vision began to return and they saw the strange egg-shaped object lift back into the sky. It was completely gone within ten seconds. In reality, the whole incident likely last less than a minute. After a few tries, the ignition eventually turned on and Alvin and Phillip were on their way.

They decided to call the local Towson Police. Two police officers arrived on the scene, and the witnesses explained to them the strangest minute of their lives. After the report was filed, the boys waited eagerly for an update. But the only one that ever came was that the report had been sent to the US Air Force for investigation.

The young men decided to contact the Ground Observer Corps with their report. However, it appears the incident was never taken very seriously. Phillip was particularly affected and frequently asked the Corps and people in the area if anyone had seen something similar. They were told the object was a “Navy Blimp” but the pair did not believe this explanation.

Interestingly enough, according to UFOInsight, “Unbeknown to the pair at the time, a corroborating witness, known only as “Mr. M” – claimed to be a credible witness – said he saw a “luminous white object” rising into the air which then disappeared shortly after.”

The case remains unsolved to this day.
